Concurrent with The Hybrid Book: Intersection + Intermedia Conference and Fair at The University of the Arts, June 4-6, 2009, (registration form) will be several opportunities for alumni of the MFA Book Arts/ Printmaking program. The conference and fair will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the program. Events include:
One of the major exhibitions at the Hybrid Book conference will be of recent, post-graduate work by alumni, in any medium. Juried by Mindell Dubansky, Preservation Librarian at Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as a critical writer, curator, and book artist, and Clarissa Sligh, a prominent photographer, installation artist, and book artist, who teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and New York University, the exhibition will be on display during the Hybrid Book conference in Hamilton Hall at The University of the Arts. The exhibition will include a catalog.
All alumni and faculty are invited to join us Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 4:00-9:00 pm in Hamilton Hall as we honor faculty and reconnect with fellow alum that have helped us to become the artists we are today. Celebrate twenty years of the MFA/ Book Arts Program with food, drink, pictures, stories and memories. We will have several books to share and record memories and express thanks to program directors Lois Johnson, Mary Phelan, Patty Smith and Susan Viguers, as well as a promotional table to share your current accomplishments, show announcements and book prospectuses with colleagues and friends.

In addition to the celebration, we will be organizing a portfolio exchange to commemorate 20 years of MFA graduates and faculty. Portfolios will become part of several archives including the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Print Collection, the MFA Book Arts/ Printmaking archive, and the collection of a private donor. Details are as follows: *Edition of 15 *Size 11” x 15” *Any Medium *Subject or imagery should reflect your current work or interests Prints are due at the University no later than April 20, 2009. Portfolios of 10 prints will be handed out to participants at the reunion.
